PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) a crippling mental health issue that stems from traumatic experiences. These experiences may include, but are not limited to: combat, rape, abuse, romantic tension, breakups, or physical injuries. When a person suffers from PTSD the traumatic experiences haunt the individual for months, or even years, after the trauma happens. The day time nightmares, otherwise known as flashbacks, coupled with the night-time nightmares of reliving the experience, can cause a sufferer to be in a constant state of emotional pain.
This emotional prison must have an escape. The escape of PTSD is EMDR therapy. EMDR is an acronym for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. EMDR was developed by Francis Shapiro and is used in many hospitals to treat veterans of war. EMDR is an efficient therapy and results can be quickly seen.
For a sufferer of PTSD, the healing that may take 100 sessions of traditional “talk” therapy can be achieved in, sometimes, as few as 6 sessions of EMDR treatment. As normal sessions happen once a week, a person suffering from PTSD can accomplish the same progress in much less time.
Anyone who suffers from PTSD, or any family member who has a loved one suffering from PTSD, will appreciate the difference in the reduced time frame for results. PTSD suffering has lasted long enough and it’s time to heal and begin life again.
